Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy II is hoping to spread some comfort to the Newtown community by collecting new teddy bears for the children of the town after the Friday, Dec. 14, Sandy Hook Elementary school massacre.
New Canaan Advertiser parenting columnist and staff writer Julie Butler along with her friend Deborah Johns sprung into action as news of the Newtown school shootings spread that Friday.
They offered help and comfort with Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy II, modeled after the first Operation Fuzzy Wuzzy, which was done to help comfort a town in Russia after a school shooting there. [See story: Community starts up collection of teddy bears for Newtown kids]
The weekend after Christmas, staffers at Hersam Acorn Newspapers, which owns the New Canaan Advertiser, and other volunteers plan to distribute the bears in Newtown.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions about donating bears or want to help deliver the bears.
If you are interested in making a financial donation to help offset counseling and other services for Newtown survivors, please consider donating:
Below is a map displaying where the donated bears have come from. Unfortunately, some donations have been anonymous, so we are not able to provide origins of all the bears.
